Former Distinguished Explorer Kahal Reos, the survivor of the eighth expedition

Kahal was an Explorer of Réskehold and one with strong convictions to continue the expeditions to the Surface in spite of the previous ones' failure and Wariés' constant wars slowly eating away at the nation's territories.
Kahal's fellow Explorers described him as passionate, yet unskilled. He wasn't given any official role in the expedition, but the leader grew a strange liking to Kahal's unwavering determination and gave leeway for him to hold speeches. Some even joked that his true calling was to explore the Bard's life of Damva Refuge.

All me life we've been at war with Wariés... how many holds did we even have? Four? Five? Now there's only one. We cannot fight them, but there is one thing no dali does better than us. We know this is our legacy, we are all standing here in front of Réskehol willing to put our lives into the wheel. Seven expeditions have failed? What do we care? That was them that failed, but this is us! Van garr let-lerr!

The eighth expedition was just as deadly as the seven before, but with one major exception. There was one that survived, and it was Kahal. Battered and dying he has returned to report of what the Explorers have witnessed. We only have this single report of him remaining, one with mixed Common and Dwarvish:

The van is truly beautiful... the van'irs harden to the touch and their fruit is soft, the woss is deeper and wider than we have ever seen[...] The entire dwarovár is surrounded by the van, but it has many different colors. For example there's a strange place like no other we started calling the mat'sar[...] The monsters are tough and endless, we often find that hiding was our best option. As long as we had rations and could bury ourselves deep enough for them not to smell us at night[...] We saw the Sunchaser in the distance, and the monsters running away from it almost trampled us over[...] still it was so wonderful... so mat...

He died a year after returning - to the very Surface Plague he brought in, that swept through the population of the Caverns of Dwarovar.
