Lord of the 13 Holds (lɔːd ɒv ðə ˈθɜːˈtiːn həʊldz)
It's an originally Dwarvish dice game based on that's played with 2-to-13 die. It mostly tests the Wisdom and luck of the participants. First you roll 2 die, then in a given order you go around and participants can decide to roll an extra dice or pass. Whoever rolls a total of 13 first, wins. If you go above 13, you lose. If everyone passed in a round, then whoever is closest to 13 (but not above) wins.
History
There's an optional rule if everyone passes on the same amount (for example if two people have 12 and neither want to bust). In this case another round is played between these participants until there's a clear winner.
Components and tools
At least two die are required to play. Collectors of dice however like to bring as many with them as they can.
Participants
At least two, no upper limit. Usually participants sit in a circle so everyone can see each other. Sometimes (especially in games for gold) there's a judge too, to make sure nobody cheats or uses loaded dice.
