Square Formation

Conceptualized in Tamwind during the Age of Ruanon, the Square Formation is a formation designed around melee units defending a single central unit. This central unit is most often a talented Mage.

Tactics

The central unit is given a lot of space so they can maneuver against area of effect attacks. The troops assuming the square formation are melee specialists who protect the central unit against melee threats. As the melee threats approach, the square formation shrinks by the corner units detaching from the formation to tackle the approaching threat while the rest of the formation moves inwards.
