"Sivanii dana velanon. Kel Flor shevas analii."
— The King's Welcome to the Wood; translation: "Come forth into our realm. Be welcome to Florian's Wood."
The language of the
elves.
Origin
Elven was the first language spoken in the world, given breath by the first elves created by
Florian, the Green Lord. It is a gentle, flowing language that embodies the essence of creation. Most languages on Dálnaes have roots in Elven, the most similar being
Etherean. When the first elves were born, the
Song of Creation was till being sung by the gods. The elves listened to Florian's voice as he gave life to the forest, and from his words, they developed their own tongue
Usage
Elven is rarely spoken outside of the
Enchanted Wood, but it is known and spoken by every sapient creature within it, even those with their own tongue. It is also common practice for merchants and travelers who regularly visit the Wood to learn it. It is also taught to Etherean royalty. Many Etherean mages choose to study it as well for better ease of casting spells. Though Elven does not possess the power of creation that
Nelfynae does, it was the first language used to harness magical energy and thus, magic is more easily drawn to it.
Learning the Language
Because of their similarities, Elven is relatively easy for Ethereans to learn. The most difficult aspects of Elven come in the form of grammar and word structure, and how it relates to an elf's place in society. A merchant is greeted differently than a member of nobility. Some Elven sounds are also difficult for humans to articulate correctly, though most get past such issues with practice.
