The Lisun Empire

Centuries before the present day the Lisun Empire was a grand nation at its height, and at it's largest spread from The Krigoth Mountains down into the Beragast Vale, and all along the eastern coast of Eleron. A militant nation strongly bound to ideals of honour and familial legacy, the reverence the Empire holds for its founders' borders on hero-worship, these ancestors treated almost like saints. When people think of the Empire they think of lost magic, griffin knights, bladesingers and crumbling half-buried ruins filled with the remnants of a destroyed culture.

Moonblades & Waves

The Lisun Empire began as one high elven kingdom among many, during a dangerous time of the world when the first nations were forming there borders and identities in the wake of the Dawn War. King Lisun and his collected group of trusted knights and advisors were famed during their lifetime for their adventures and exploits, and this fame only grew in their death. They were the first group to receive their Moonblades and thusly are referred to as either the First Families or First Wave. Second Wave families are the those descended from the individuals that received their Moonblades after the First Families, people whom King Lisun knew personally but weren't part of his council. Third Wave blades were handed out to all those in King Lisun's service that he didn't know, whose service had been welcomed but not outstanding in any particular way.   These waves became synonymous with ranks of nobility, instilled much pride in bloodlines and history, but severely limited upward mobility for lower families. The only way to ascend in the ranks was to marry into a higher, more powerful house. While a powerful job may be awarded to someone with exceptional skills or dedication to duty, no Emperor could give an individual a higher social standing in terms of waves.

First Families

The First Wave families of the Empire, descended from the original founders, were the highest echelons of society. Though the original number of founders was ten, for the majority of the Empire's history First Families refers to only 8. Members of these families were the only ones eligible to be voted in as Emperor, and were not allowed to inter-marry, as a way of stopping people attempting to consolidate power.

Public Agenda

The official statement made by King Lisun upon his coronation is that he wanted everyone united and standing together, instead of the small fractured warring kingdoms of the time. Ironically, this is exactly what the Empire became after it's fall.

Disbandment

Towards the latter end of 2E, cracks were already beginning to show throughout the land as the empire had spread itself thin across the continent. Annexed lands along the border felt dissent towards their new rulers, particularly the residents of the Beragast Vale, whose families had been systematically hunted down during the Empire's pursuit of The Iron Order. Some of the First Families' lines were dwindling, and the ideologies that birthed the Empire were twisted to aid the higher nobility.   The actual fall of the Empire is believed to have occurred during the early spring of 2162 2E, after a series of military conflicts against an allied force of goblinkin, humans and fiends. Some personal records detail draconic attacks accompanying those forces, though given the range and intensity of the destruction few primary records of the events exist, what historians can undoubtedly agree on is that the Empire lost the war badly and centuries of architecture, history and knowledge were destroyed, and the Lisun Empire never recovered.

Military

The Empire during its time was famed for its military prowess. Each elven child was presumed to have basic weapons training, traditionally some form of bow and blade martial arts. While the Empire became home to far more than just elves, this was considered to be a cultural thing not to be assumed all residents from the newer territories. Anyone hoping to hold any public sector job would be required to have had some prior military experience, the amount depending exactly on the importance of the job.   The Lisun Empire held a small well-trained standing army and would call upon levies as needed to flesh out the ranks. During times of peace the army would often act as a peacekeeping force, with regiments dealing with bandit camps, dangerous beasts or exploration. Aside from this the empire also boasted other dedicated militia groups.

Griffin Knights

The aerial force of the empire, Griffin Knights emerged shortly after the founding of the Empire, after the first griffins were seen in battle under the influence of the Skyrider. Traditionally armed with bows, light spears and blades for close combat, the exact gear a Griffin Knight carries may depend on their exact job. The Empire bred a variety of different griffins, for the purposes of scouting, battle or stealth missions. Upon receiving knighthood, a Griffin Knight is gifted an enchanted ring allowing them to halt a lethal descent once per day if they were to become unseated.   Though Griffin Knights were never incredibly large in number, for the years they existed they dominated the battlefield, as few opponents could outrange and/or outmaneuver them. After the Empire's fall there was a significant rise in the feral griffin population, and finding a purebred griffin is quite rare.
