Confedrated Martian Free States
The Conferated Martian Free States (CMFS) is one of the larger governments in human space. It maintains a formidable military, although it is not terribly belligerent.
Structure
Each member state provides two representatives to the legislative council. Additionally the President is voted for by the members of each state every four martian years. Each state gets 20 votes, the top candidate (in terms of popular vote in that state) in a state gets 10 votes, the candidate in second 7, and the candidate in fourth 3. The candidate with the most total votes becomes the next president of Mars and takes over on the sol of the next northern summer solstice.
Territories
The CMFS claims sovereignty over all of Mars, its moons, as well as a number of asteroids, deep space stations, merchant ships, and military vessels.
Military
The Confederate Navy fields numerous Alcubierre Drive fit war ships, local sub-light patrol boats, as well as a substantial marine corps for boarding, infiltration, and ground deployment. Hab rings in military installations are often fit for 0.6g in the work section, 0.4g in the habitation area, and 1.0g in the PT areas, the idea is to make military personnel capable of operating at the highest G instillation in system, including if necessary, on the surface of earth. New recruits often require substantial adjustment to this and so will spend months exercising at 0.4g before moving to exercise in 0.6G before finally moving to full G training, which is often a rigorous transition.
Agriculture & Industry
Mars' primary industry is computing, both data storage, transmission, manufacture, and software development. That being said they do not heavily import food, having numerous farming domes across the surface able to produce about enough food most of the time to feed the population of the planet.
Trade & Transport
Internal and external trade is largely free of tariffs, although strict biological import/export controls are in place, and trade must be funneled through official ports of entry, which are administered by the Marines as well as state sanctioned customs officers.

Legislative Body
The Legislative council is composed of 2 representatives from each state, each state elects representatives on schedules defined by their own state constitution. New laws require a 2/3 vote, and can be vetoed by the president, although this veto can be overturned by a 9/10ths vote of the legislature.
Judicial Body
Each state maintains its own judicial body according to its constitution, although for disputes between states, or crimes against the confederacy as a whole there is a confederate judiciary selected by the legislature and approved by the president. Traditionally there are 19 judges on the bench, although this is not a law.
