Ypresi
Ypresi is a relatively basal Xenosegmatan that has adapted to life on the ocean floor. [creature design by Tdlane]
Basic Information
Anatomy
Ypresi is composed of 3 segments, all which posses’ small limbs used for movement along the sea floor. The first segment has fleshy mandibles at the mouth that are used for tearing pieces off its primary food sources; Retinalphyta. The first and second segments have a pair of eyes, although the ones on the second segment are smaller. All segments posses gill fronds on the at the posteroventral margin of each segment. It has a coelom that forms anterior first and then ends in an anus at the posterior of the third segment. The top 28-30% of the skin is semi-hardened carapace that is made primarily of alpha keratin. This carapace goes from the posterior of each segment to the anterior, with holes in it for eyes on the segments with them.
Biological Traits
The digestive tract of Ypresi extends through the third segment where it breaks down organic matter while passing any detritus or inedible soil. While this is not abnormal, the notable difference is the preliminary cavity in the second segment which digests organic matter slightly before it moves to the posterior gut. The only other notable thing about Ypresi’s biology is its sensitivity to temperature.
Genetics and Reproduction
Ypresi are sequential hermaphrodites. Females will change gender after about 4-5 years, after changing to male, ypresi will remain so for the rest of their lives.
Ecology and Habitats
Ypresi’s Optimum temperature for survival is 80F/27C but can survive temperatures as low as 73F/23C and as high as 90F/32C. As a result it tends to live in the shallows in the tropics.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Ypresi feeds on Retinalphyta, primarily Pneumos due to its commonality in the tropics.
Additional Information
Perception and Sensory Capabilities
Ypresi has 2 pairs of eyes, the anterior pair are capable of distinguishing light from dark and have a full view of what’s in front and above the organism. The posterior pair can only see upwards and function similarly to the anterior pair.
