Al e'Dima

Al e'Dima is the Largest town in the Blasted waists. It's location indicates it is the last remnants of Devon, the first city of Humanity. If it is true, it also means that the Temple of Wellem, the holiest site in the Jovan church, should be nearby. The Inhabitants hold this in the back of their minds but few really take the claim seriously, worrying more about when the next merchant with food will arrive then to pay any mind to the pilgrims who come once in a while to visits the shrine outside of the walls.   They pay more heed to the stocky men who visit once in a while. They come from the west with no indication that they had packed nearly enough for the long trip from the West kingdom but any attempt to find where they come from is met with deep suspicion and accusations of ill intent. otherwise, the men are harmless and in fact quite helpful. They take the bones of Sand dragons in exchange for gold, tools and even short lessons in crafts. The technique Al e'Dima uses to purify it's glass so it's clear and strong came from a few such visits. once they are done, the men head back west, disregarding any offers to take more water or food, stating that they don't have far to go.   They also rely on Merchants coming with food, given the fact they live in the center of a dessert where fresh food frighteningly hard to grow do to lack of water. The local diet consisted of what can be found and what can be brought in from long away. Ferril Cat and Lizard are often made into a stew with cactus called "Capusset"

Demographics

The closeness to the Coricoan Boarder, as well as the general age of the city, makes it one of the better mixed towns, with a strong connection to Aradanin but plenty of Inhabitants from the Culture to the north. The town is almost completely populated by those who would be middle or upper class elsewhere, being craftspeople of fairly rare trades such a glassblowers and Specialty tanners. This means that people who would be pillars of wealth are in fact barely getting by. The Ruler of the Region is seen as barely more than a local mayor. In the same way, people whose jobs would be considered base level, such as farmer and hunters, are pillars of the community given how rare fresh food is in the area.

Government

Given lack of alternative, Al e'Dima is home to the Local feudal lord, Governor Sallam, and his family. Sallam might have the title of Governor but in practice, his status is not all that highly regarded and is treated much the same as a Mayor with the added task that sometimes matters in one of the villages need to be taken to a higher court and Sallam acts.   Sallam "commands" a town watch comprised of maybe two dozen armed men, all of whom are volunteers and must provide all forms of arms and armor.

Industry & Trade

Mostly glass makeing with a little Sand Dragon hide trading

Infrastructure

The city is surrounded by a low wall and palisade, mostly there to keep the Sand dragons out but also to provide additional security for the glass foundries. The foundries themselves do not stick out much from the rest of town, build from mud and Ignatius rock.   The center of town is a small pocket of green, filled with small palm trees and native grasses, and in the middle of it all is the town well.
