Mastery viva information package
You've been a journeyman for a while. It's been a long and tiring journey and you thought you would never see the bottom of the pile of information and skills you had learn. But finally, the day has come! Your master finally thinks that you're ready to start working on your masterpiece! Congratulations! However, before letting enthusiasm overcome you and you start already seeing yourself as a master, there are a few important information to consider.
Your journeyman studies
First make sure that you have actually finished learning everything you were supposed to as a journeyman and that your master may not have been overly optimistic about your skills—yes, even
them can be optimistic on occasion, and it's understandable that their urge to get rid of you could briefly blind them! Refer to the official mastery lists published by the guild.
Knowledge
Do you have knowledge & a deep understanding of all theoretical information detailed in the list?
Are you able to go further & apply this other fields of magic & engineering?
Skills
Are you able to replicated all the techniques detailed in the list? Do you understand & are able to follow all part of the instructions?
Safety procedures are an integral part if this!
Behaviour
Is your behaviour the reserved & distinguished one of a master or are you acting like an immature student?
Any prank played in the last year is a direct disqualification!
Your master piece
Once you have mastered all of this—and not one second before!—you will be ready to go on to the next step: the actual creation of your masterpiece. While brainstorming what kind of project to create and coming up with a suitable design, remember that simply crafting something is not enough and that you need to follow the 3 Ss with you want to actually graduate!
Style
It needs to be flashy & grab attention immediately.
Substance
It needs to actually be useful for something.
Skills
It needs to apply the complex skills you've learned in the last few years.
Viva
Finally, the last step: the viva. This is the Judgement, there to established whether or not you are worthy of the title of master. It is conducted by a panel of distinguished masters employed by the rune guild to ensure that the guild standard are respected throughout the country.
Composition of a viva
Presentation
A presentation of your master piece explaining what it is, the theory you used for its crafting and the philosophy behind each of your choice.
Grilling
A grilling by the masters regarding the presentation, the master piece itself, or all knowledge you are expected to have gained during your time as a journeyman.
Viva guidelines
Be respectful,
even for stupid questions
Speak clearly,
don't mumble
Hierarchise info,
don't get lost in details
Reformulate,
don't repeat
Above all, remember:
The masters are always right
Profit
Congratulations, you're now a master and part of the elite of this country. You can now lord your status over everyone else and start acquiring your own minions! Just be warned that if you party too much in celebration and act in a shameful manner that humiliates the guild, you will immediately and summarily lose your new title!
Agh, intense flashbacks. XD I like the note to be respectful even of stupid questions. So academia. XD
