Irlon

They Claim the Known

The Irlon are an intelligent Cephalopodic life form living on the massive water Moon of Cracea orbiting the planet Irlon. The Irlon were Spacefaring when the Cassads found them, using craft and technology not seen anywhere else in the Known. In fact the Irlon are Genetically “uplifted” Octopi. When the Dark Age came they rose up against their Human patrons and gained control of their world. Then they erased all evidence that they were anything other than a self evolved species. Only the oldest of them know this fact. They use the fact that there are lower evolved octopi on other worlds as proof that they are the OLDEST sentient species. Irlon walk upright on their legs bending them outward only at the “lip” of the flesh between each, keeping their beaks and undersides hidden. They are extremely intelligent but their psychology is largely erratic, unpredictable and bordering on psychotic. During the Wars of the Blade they were just as likely to kill surrendering enemy combatants as they were to take them prisoner or return them home. The Irlon have a natural camouflage ability. They are able to control the color and shape of their dermis to an uncanny degree. Used in ambushes, many enemy soldiers found themselves passing within inches of cloaked Irlons. The common Irlon soldier stands about two meters tall with their legs bent at the lip but can still rise up an additional two-three meters when necessary. Their eight appendages can be operated independently of each other with amazing strength and dexterity. Irlons continue to grow all throughout their life with no upper known limit. The oldest, wisest and LARGEST of them usually remain on the homeworld, unseen by alien eyes. Irlon use flashing, changing color patterns to communicate. These flashes can be interpreted by a computer for interspecies talks.
