Nosiri
Keepers of the Reach
Civilization Overview:
The Nosiri Nebula Cluster is home to hundreds of planetary bodies in various stages of development, ensconced within variegated dust and debris fields. Nine densely populated worlds along with numerous exploration, research and spiritual outposts comprise the Nosiri Conflux, a centralized governing body. Denizens of the Conflux commonly refer to the nebula cluster as the Reach. The main world supports a ring system and several colonized moons.CIVILIZATION DEVELOPMENT
Pre Dark Age: Several fleets of colonizing ships settled the promising worlds of the cluster in tandem, maintaining a close cooperative network. The leanings of the scientific establishment at the time, lack of heavy metals and heavy concentrations of organic compounds [and independently evolved life?] led to industrialized mega fauna, accelerated mutation and other breakthroughs in biological research. The biospheres of the twelve original worlds produced some of the most radical lifeforms in the Known with careful oversight.Dark Age:
The Dark Age rendered all of the safeguards set in place by the Nosiri worlds useless. Creations on every world escaped their infrastructure, from mega fauna destroying the massive cities they were designed to build, or bacteria mutating out of control to spawn terrible plagues. Four worlds were wiped out entirely and humanity teetered on the brink in the cluster.Post Dark Age:
Of all the worlds, Orolo recovered the most rapidly, eventually binding the other worlds of the cluster under one rule. The technological reversion that impacted the entire Known affected the Reach differently, as the work of their ancestors remained partially intact through surviving animals. Rediscovering and appreciating the creations of their ancestors led to an even deeper emphasis on biological research. Philosophies bisected sharply in this era, with some people intent on subjugating every corner of the Reach, and others dedicated to protecting it, and still others who believed the spirits of the ancestors themselves were imbued among the biological wonders of the Reach. Many scientists during this era have become obsessed with pushing their research to the limit, blurring the line between biology and humanity in order to commune with their ancestors. Other science-religion sects believe that their calling is to populate every possible environment in the Reach with life—a new, dangerous cult believes that the Dark Age was a punishment for tampering with nature and cessation and reversion of all experimentation is the only way to atone for their sins. Current Regard with Other Civilizations: The Nosiri Conflux is on the brink of civil war, with their population split between Cassad loyalists or joining the worlds of the New Regime. Envoys from both sides are courting the government heavily, although the heavy-handedness of the Cassad is not improving their diplomatic standing. The Nosiri enjoy good relations with the Marajeshi—who pay well to conduct gravity experiments in unpopulated stretches of the Reach. This is a troublesome relationship for the Brython, who the Nosiri also trade extensively with. The Conflux has the capacity to become a Tier II power once their internal strife is rectified. Two gates exist in the Reach, one controlled by the central government and heavily fortified due to constant threat of debris strikes. The other gate is the only moveable gate within the Known, even more dangerous to reach and controlled by pirates. Nosiri ship design is unremarkable, as most attempts to introduce biological components into space has been unsuccessful to date. The government contracts much of their shipbuilding through Brython agents, and is currently negotiating a number of backroom deals to develop their own designs. On the other hand, Nosiri planetary defenses are formidable, with [Animal Trainers] reaching upper military ranks or commanding high prices as mercenaries. Nosiri command of swarm and flock behavior is unparalleled, and the biological aspect is a source of terror for enemies. Weaponry is equally horrific, with advanced biological weapons serving as a deterrent to keep the Interregnum conflict out of the Reach.created by DaVaun Sanders
