Crowned Alpha Coronation

I wasn't going to write a SC 2023 prompt for this world, but I guess this prompt just screamed at me to dive into DMC.

An Alpha is the leader of a pack and when it is time for the Alpha's heir to rise as Alpha, a lengthy ceremony is held. This is the moment an Alpha Heir has been waiting for their entire life, and the ceremonial date is determined by when the Alpha Heir's mate shows their face. In rare cases, the Alpha Heir will hide their mate until they're eighteen to push the Wolf Council into submitting to their demands.

Jack McClain: "Today's the day, beautiful. We don't have to hide any longer. And I won't let anyone hurt you."

History

The Crowned Alpha Coronation first around one century after werewolves came to be and wolves were fighting over the next Alpha-to-be for the existing packs. The first pack to try was the Silver Heart Pack, a pack so ancient it is unheard of except for vampires. Ever since Alphas have participated in this ceremony, it has been well-received. Some people believe that an Alpha must be of Alpha blood, but sometimes, overthrowing an existing rule can save the pack from harm.

Lucian's Ceremony

Lucian McClain is the current Alpha of the Winter Moon Pack. His coronation was a bit different from most Crowned Alpha Coronations. Lucian had never met his mate, who was presumed deceased due to the Chymoús War. The Wolf Council stepped in and chose a mate for him, Lucian's childhood female best friend, Suna McClain.

Jack's Ceremony

This section contains MAJOR spoilers for the Bound Series. Read with caution.
Roughly a month after Jack McClain was captured by the Itude Empire and tortured for information, he was sold at an Exotic Pet Auction, where he met someone who would change his life forever. His new owner was none other than Kěith Cheonsa, his little mate and a reminder of a dark part of Jack's history. They spent a month together in the empire before Jack was rescued by the White Mountain Pack and was able to return home, with his mate, of course.
Jack kept the mate bond between them a secret from his pack and waited until his eighteenth birthday, which happened to coincide with a full moon. He stayed neutral through the ceremony, allowing the Council to pressure him into accepting Minerva Dre as his mate. Once crowned Alpha, Jack refused her and asked Kěith to come on stage. The Council tried to stop it, inciting Jack's rage and forcing him to fight back in defense of his mate. He gets the Council to step down and asks Kěith similar questions he was asked. Once answered, Jack and Kěith were officially Alpha and Lunar, ready to take on anything.

Execution

There are three stages in the coronation, each representing the growing power within the Heir.
STAGE ONE begins with the Alpha and his son on stage and the Alpha makes a speech about what is to come with his son becoming Alpha.
STAGE TWO involves a bowl of black paint and the Alpha asking his son questions, which he must agree to and show loyalty to his pack and Bavara, the Moon. The Alpha marks his son, who is now officially an Alpha.
STAGE THREE involves the new Alpha standing up and cheering on the pack and calling his mate forward to take the Luna (or Lunar) questions. Once agreed to, they cheer on the pack together and the new Alpha leads the pack run.

Participants

Those who participate in the ceremony are the Alpha, his Heir, and the Heir's mate or chosen mate if he has yet to find his true mate. The Wolf Council may participate if the Heir has come of age and the Alpha before him is deceased.

Observance

The ceremony takes place on the next full moon after the Alpha Heir comes of age and has found his mate. If he reaches eighteen years of age and has yet to find his mate, the Wolf Council will step in and announce a chosen mate for him (usually his female best friend from childhood), and the ceremony will still take place on the next full moon after his eighteenth birthday.

Components & Tools

The Alpha must wear a white fur shawl with a black leather strap across the torso and around the right arm. A set of polished wolf canines are strung onto a black leather cord that holds the shawl in place on the shoulders. The Alpha Heir wears a very similar shawl, but he doesn't have the black leather strap around his right arm.   Both the Alpha and Heir wear a hide skirt with white fur stitched onto dark red and black leather. A set of wolf claws hang from a leather pouch in the shape of a wolf paw.   A small bowl of black war paint is present near the Alpha. This black paint is used to create five streaks across the face to resemble wolf claws and the Heir has now become an Alpha.
