Pink sand crab
Basic Information
Anatomy
The crab is an oval creature with four legs sticking out on each of the shorter sides. It has an exoskeleton, shielding its soft innards against attacks. The frontmost two legs are adorned with pincers, making them more like arm than legs. The pincers are smaller than most other crabs', but the edge is sharper. It has a set of small eyes between the two pincers.
Ecology and Habitats
This crab is found in oceans and on sandy beaches. It usually doesn't stray far from the water's edge, as its food and nests are all located by the beach. They find cracks and crevices in between big rocks and in caves, where they can hide and store food.
Dietary Needs and Habits
Pinks sand crabs are omnivores, eating both small fish, algae, other crabs and fungi. The aggressive nature towards other of the same species often results in bouts to the death, and the winner takes the price of dining on its foe.
Behaviour
These crabs are known to be aggressive, both towards outer threats such as predatory animals and fishers, but also against their own kind. They move fast and have expert precision with their pincers, being able to catch fishing pliers even when being thrown on land.
They have a tendency to burrow down into the pink sands to camouflage themselves and hide from their prey, making it easy for them to snap a pincer when food comes close. This also helps them clean their underside, as grains of sand find their way inte every crevice and nook of their body.

Conservation Status
This crab is seen as a delicacy, and therefore hunted for food. Laws in for example Galip has made it harder to receive a hunting permit as well as a serving permit for restaurants, and they are thoroughly checked to ensure it is not hunted towards extinction.
