Turtle Meat for the Pulan People

In the Pulan culture thier connection to the giant turtles serves for them as part of a coming of age ceremony. When they establish a home they must do so by leading thier first hunt with the specified goal being to kill a turtle to obtain its shell to make thier house. When the people here mature to an age of 21 they are sent out on a hunt with three other people of thier choosing, not to return until they have succeeded.   “The meat is rather tough and dry, I suspect that the frigid temperatures here are to blame. That being said the flavor was quite tasty” - Rohan Barrows   This ceremony represents a couple of things. Firstly the meat from their catch represents to them the ability for the individual to provide for themselves. This is seen as their first meal, their first dinner on their own, the start of a brand new journey. The second thing about this is the act of them acquiring their own house. When they return to the village they have a celebration where they use the remaining meat gathered there to host a welcoming party to officially establish their home.   After the party they keep a small portion of the meal they prepared and keep it to leave out by the door at night. This symbolizes two things. Firstly, it symbolizes an offering to Tugen the god of the Moons and stars. The second thing that this symbolizes is the welcoming nature of these people, this food is given to those who need a meal when the home owner is unable to be their and provide for them. The meal is left for two nights before it is taken and removed as it is not an ideal thing to provide a spoiled meal to those in need
