Support Functions within the Knights of Aedralon

Written by DoStuffZ

The Knights of Aedralon are a diverse and versatile order, consisting of individuals with various class backgrounds, including paladins, fighters, monks, clerics, and rangers. While martial prowess is a core aspect of their duties, the knights recognize the importance of a well-rounded approach to service and protection. This approach involves the organization of specialized support functions to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of knightly elements.   Support Functions and Their Organization:   Squad-Level Support Functions: At the squad level, support functions are primarily organized within the squad itself. Knights within the squad divide responsibilities among themselves, ensuring that essential support roles are filled. These functions include:
  • Medical: A knight within the squad may be trained in basic first aid and healing magic, providing immediate medical assistance to wounded comrades.
  • Food and Supplies: Knights take turns carrying and distributing rations and supplies, ensuring that the squad is adequately provisioned during missions.
  • Equipment and Gear: A designated knight oversees the maintenance and distribution of weapons, armor, and gear within the squad.
  • Scouting: A knight with expertise in stealth and reconnaissance is responsible for gathering information and keeping the squad informed about the surrounding area.
  • Civilian PR: One knight may act as the diplomat, communicating with civilians, resolving disputes, and representing the order in a positive light.

Platoon-Level Support Functions: In platoon-sized knightly elements, the complexity of support increases, and additional personnel or equipment are introduced. Functions are divided into specialized sections, each led by a knight skilled in the respective area. These sections include:
  • Medical Section: Comprising healers, clerics, and alchemists, the medical section provides more extensive care and healing capabilities to wounded knights.
  • Supply Carriages: Several wagons or carriages are responsible for transporting food, supplies, and equipment, ensuring that the platoon remains well-equipped for extended campaigns.
  • Scout Corps: The scout corps is composed of experienced rangers and spies who perform advanced reconnaissance and intelligence gathering, with the support of trained animals.
  • Civilian Liaison Unit: A team of diplomats and negotiators maintains relations with local communities and handles diplomatic affairs on a broader scale.

Company-Level Support Functions: At the company level, the support functions become even more substantial and specialized. Each function is a platoon unto itself, with multiple knights and resources dedicated to fulfilling the role. These functions include:
  • Medical Division: The medical division is equipped with field hospitals, apothecaries, and clerics who provide advanced medical care and magical healing.
  • Logistics and Supply Corps: The logistics and supply corps manages a convoy of wagons and carriages, ensuring that the company has access to a continuous flow of provisions and equipment.
  • Elite Reconnaissance Unit: The elite reconnaissance unit, composed of master scouts and spies, undertakes complex and covert missions, often deep behind enemy lines.
  • Public Relations Directorate: The public relations directorate handles diplomacy, trade negotiations, and public image management on a significant scale, forging alliances and maintaining favorable relations with neighboring regions.

Brigade-Level Support Functions: At the highest level, brigade-sized knightly elements are supported by an extensive and sophisticated hierarchy of support functions. These roles include:
  • Medical Corps: The medical corps operates full-fledged hospitals, offering comprehensive care to injured knights and civilians.
  • Logistics and Supply Command: The logistics and supply command is responsible for managing vast supply lines, coordinating caravans of provisions, and ensuring seamless logistics throughout the brigade.
  • Strategic Intelligence Bureau: The strategic intelligence bureau engages in complex strategic planning, espionage, and intelligence operations, providing essential information to shape overarching battle strategies.
  • Diplomatic Council: The diplomatic council consists of skilled ambassadors, envoys, and advisers who contribute to high-level diplomacy, negotiations with foreign powers, and the formulation of foreign policy.
In the Knights of Eadralon, the successful coordination of these support functions ensures that knights can focus on their primary mission of safeguarding the realm. Each knight, regardless of their class background, recognizes the vital role that support functions play in the order's overarching mission of honor, chivalry, and protection.
