Comanche Culture

Comanche Culture (1.0)

The Comanche arrived from the south west of the Northern American continent of Earth. The portal they traveled through appeared in their lands without a gate during the year 1867. They have been on this land for nearly 800 years now. During the time the portal was open, many families and groups from several different tribes came through the portal. Once through, they found themselves on a large island south of the smallfolk home island and the southwest of the Red Sun Empire. Then, without warning, the portal quickly closed. Due to their nomadic nature, it took some time to become established in their new lands. For several centuries, they were isolated until they met the smallfolk. The smallfolk found their ways noble and started a strong trading relationship. The same happened with the Red Sun Empire, and then the Jade Empire. When the undead armies conquered the home island of the smallfolk, they turned their attention to the Comanche, but the Comanche warriors were waiting on the beaches and shores. In brilliant acts of heroism and horsemanship, they drove off the undead invaders. Now several trading networks exist to their home island, one of which connects the Dawn Lands. Occasionally some Comanche visit the Dawn Lands in search of fortune, trade, or information.

Restricted Classes

Hoplite, Crossbowman, Mage, Pirate, Hexenkreiger, Paladin, and Samurai. Battle Monks are possible if it goes with your story, but are extremely rare. You may play Youxia since the Comanche are not far from the Jade Empire, but must have a compelling story reason as to why.

Religion

The Comanche faith is animistic in nature, attributing spirits to animals and aspects in nature. Their deities consist of the Sun, Moon, and Earth. It took some time to learn the ways of this new world, but thanks to the smallfolk and elves, they’ve managed to do so while keeping with their tradition of medicine men as spirit guides and healers.

Special Abilities

Level 1
Comanche Weapon Training: You can use the one handed spear (lance), one-handed axe (tomahawk), knife, and bow and arrow. If you choose a class that already uses one of these weapons, you deal +1 damage with that weapon..   Mounted Warrior: You are considered to be mounted.   Mounted River Crossing: You may cross river obstacles at no cost, and you may carry one additional party member at a time.   Mounted Combat: Lance: You are considered to be riding your mount into combat. You gain a +1 on damage when using a one-handed spear (lance).   Unmounted: If you are considered to be “on foot” (as in a tourney, duel, a cave, a dungeon, on a stealth quest, etc.) or if your mount is lost or stolen for any reason, then mounted abilities are lost until the mount is “regained.”
Level 3
“Horse Thief”: You may “procure” a horse from another player that is considered mounted. To do this you must declare this to the target, then the target is considered to be without a mount and loses all abilities related to their mount. They can get a new mount by going back to the smith (or banker if one is present or possibly your household camp, if it has a stable available) or buying it back from you. You may negotiate the price. If two Comanche try to use this ability on one another it will be decided by a duel.
Level 6
Advanced Comanche Weapon Training: Your damage bonus with one handed axe, knife, and one handed spear improves to +2 damage.
Level 9
Trample: Due to the speed, quadrupedal nature, and strength of your mount, you are now considered immune to the Entangle spell ability. This is a mounted ability, and thus does not work if unmounted.
Historical Notes: The Comanche warriors were famous for their equestrian abilties but this was developed over time. Originally the Comanche came from another tribe that did not utilitize horses.  Also the Comanche warriors were renown for their skill witht he lance (short spear) and knife. They did in fact actually have armor, it was usually made from Buffalo armor and hide.  And has been reported to have been very sturdy and effective in combat.
