Mantrik Rathmore

Mantrik Rathmore was once a noble knight, sworn to the service of house Noxheart. With the passing of the wise and gentle ruler Salvotore, the throne came to the spoiled and cruel lordling Dommick without an appointed regent. The child with absolute authority over the Eyrie soon became a terror to his people. Mantrik, bound to the service of house Noxheart obeyed the orders of the Tyrant child grimly, committing many evil deeds under the bonds of his oath and sewing the seeds of his fall.   The last straw came one winter day while Mantrik was out on a task given to him by Dommick. While Mantrik was away Dommick had an argument with Mantrik’s young son Ebron. As a result of the argument, Dommick ordered Mantrik’s children and wife to be put to death. Upon returning to Eyrielight Castle Mantrik learned of his family’s fate and stormed into the keep, sword in hand. Mantrik chased Dommick to the top of the tallest tower, where he thrust his sword through the lordling tyrant.  At that point, Mantrik took the throne for himself and has ruled the Eyrie for the last 73 years with an iron fist.   Unknown to the populace, after Mantrik slew Dommick; overcome by grief he threw himself off the top of the tower and onto the rocks below. Instead of the release of death, Mantrik was to endure a fate much worse. For the evils he committed in life, Mantrik was cursed to return as a Graveknight. Mantrik’s successive suicide attempts would all automatically fail. Beleiving he was being punished for breaking his oath of fealty (not realizing that Dommick broke the oath first by ordering him to commit deeds that would bring him dishonour), Mantrik looked to the future in his cursed state.   At that point, Mantrik took the throne, intending to reverse the damage done under Dommick’s rule. Unfortunately, the evil nature that had consumed him led Mantrik to become simply another Tyrant; ageless and undying from the throne in his undead state. Every night Mantrik returns to the top of the tallest tower, re-living his grief and fall from grace in his memories, weeping tearlessly as his soul progressively becomes colder and colder, having given up hope for redemption or even a true death.
