Western Arkenian Empire

The Western Arkenian Empire was the remnant of the Arkenian Empire that maintained imperial rule after the decline and fall of the greater empire.  The Western Arkenian Empire considered itself the successor to the imperial authourity.
The Western Arkenian Emperors slowly lost their authority to their subjects until eventually the title of emperor was an empty title and the region was a patchwork of independent states who would often openly defy the emperor.  The title of emperor however was one of the only titles that allowed the crowning of kings (causing friction with church officials and causing another schism within the church, splitting the western church between reformationists and purists).
In the late years of the 4th Dawn, the title disappeared entirely, with the Prince of Halfmeet holding the symbols of office in storage, the empire being simply referred to as "The Westlands" after.
