Great Watchtower of Malley Way
The Great Watchtower of Malley Way stands tall, a magnificent fortress that serves as the "Great Sentinel" of the Kingdom of Kerak. Built on the western bank of the Periphery River at the northern end of the Western Periphery River Corridor, this massive stone tower commands a strategic position, its formidable presence deters any major land force from easily bypassing it. pristineThe tower's significance in history is evident from the scars it bears. During the harrowing War of Freedom against the Kingdom of Battenmore, the Great Watchtower proved its worth time and time again. The surrounding valley witnessed several major land battles, where Battenmore's forces relentlessly clashed with Kerak's defenders at the tower's base. Despite the enemy's attempts, they were unable to breach the tower's defenses or advance into the valley beyond. The Great Watchtower's enduring resilience forced Battenmore's army to resort to alternative strategies. They sought naval invasions to the south, attempting to flank Kerak's forces, and launched a final desperate push from the north. But the tower remained steadfast, an unyielding bastion that stood firm against the enemy's onslaught.
As one explores the tower, you can still see the remnants of those fierce battles etched upon its weathered stones. Scorch marks from fireballs, chipped stones from siege weaponry, and arrowheads lodged in the ancient walls all bear witness to the sacrifices made by the valiant defenders. The tower stands not only as a testament to the bravery and determination of Alteria's warriors, but also as a somber reminder of the heavy tolls exacted during those tenuous times. Within the Great Watchtower, is a labyrinthine network of chambers and halls. Guardrooms hum with activity as soldiers stand watch. From the topmost levels, the view is far-reaching, offering a panoramic vista of the the northern valley, the flowing Periphery River, and the Prayer Mountains that guard the kingdom's borders.
