Overview

The U'Calo Wood in the western Continent of Pallidon is deeply intertwined with the Dark Elves of Dayne. The U'Calo Wood is a vast expanse of towering trees with a thick and impenetrable canopy. The Dark Elves quickly recognized the advantages offered by this mysterious woodland, as its dense foliage shielded them from the harsh rays of the sun, which were detrimental to their light-sensitive eyes.  

Etymology

The wood derives its name from the ancient elven language, where "U'Calo" translates to "Dark Veil," reflecting the unique characteristics of this dense forest. The origins of U'Calo Wood date back several centuries, when the Dark Elves first settled in the region and discovered the forest's remarkable properties. Legend has it that the Dark Elves left the Continent of Alteria where the other first people settled and were the first to sail across the Arin Sea to Pallidon.

The Dark Elves have mastered the art of crafting Dragonscript and Magic items from within the U'Calo Wood, and thier very well known exquisite weaponry, U'Calo Steel Swords. The trade in the U'Calo Wood and its crafted goods not only provides economic prosperity to the Dark Elves of the region, but also promotes cultural exchange and diplomacy with the other Kingdoms of Pallidon. The allure of U'Calo products has sparked interest among traders, scholars, and adventurers alike, drawing them to the Woodland realm.

These old Followers of the Dragon Kraenos are a unique faction that inhabits the underground of U'Calo Wood, adding an intriguing layer to the forest's lore and the Dark Elf culture in Dayne. This group is deeply connected and follows Kraenos who they say holds a significant role within U'Calo Wood.  

The Meiji Guard

One of the Oldest Guilds in Dayne, The Meiji Guard are made of up elite fighter and spellswords whose training and teachings date back to the early Second Age. There were seven main virtues that the Meiji were expected to maintain: justice, courage, benevolence, respect, honesty, honor, and loyalty.

History

The Dark Elves arrival in Pallidon and the discovery of The U'Calo Wood marked a pivotal point in their history. Choosing to leave The Northern Wood and travel across the Arin Sea to the Continent of Pallidon the Dark Elves embarked on a treacherous journey through rough seas until they emerged on the western continent. Exhausted and in search of a new home, they traversed mountain and plains alike until the happened upon the vast expanse of U'Calo Wood. At first, the Dark Elf regarded the forest with caution and suspicion. Its dark, foreboding nature matched their own innate affinity for the shadows. However, as they explored deeper into the wood, they soon realized the invaluable benefits it offered. The thick canopy of U'Calo Wood shielded them from the blinding rays of the sun, allowing the Dark Elves to move freely without fear of the surface world's harsh light.   Embracing this newfound sanctuary, the Dark Elven people established their grand city, at the heart of and encompassing the U'Calo Wood. It became a haven of culture, knowledge, and craftsmanship. The Dark Elves used their inherent connection to the forest and their mastery of magic to thrive within its boundaries. Over time, they developed an intricate understanding of U'Calo Wood's ecology, learning to coexist with the forest's flora and fauna. They cultivated a deep respect for the woodland, recognizing its vital role in their survival and prosperity. The Drow devised sustainable harvesting practices, ensuring that only mature trees were selectively felled, allowing the forest to regenerate and maintain its majestic beauty.

Geography

The U'Calo Wood is the Largest forested region south of Asteroth's Wall on the Continent of Pallidon. The massive dark canopied forest rests on the eastern coast of Pallidon, just north of the capital of the Kingdom of Valo's capital, Valorim.
