Alastor
The secretive Alastors were created by the Camarilla for the sole purpose of hunting and destroying the elusive Anathema, those criminals whose misdeeds against the Sect are so great as to be added to the Red List. These Kindred ''most wanted'' can never number more than ten, their name only struck from the list when their body is turned to ash by fire or sunlight.
With the inhabitants of the Red List including such luminaries as the methuselah Kementiri, it takes a special kind of Kindred to be willing to hunt such dangerous quarry.
Career
Qualifications
Alastors are most often recruited from the ranks of the Archons. Most are Ancillae or Elders who possess a mixture of investigative and martial skill. Tactical insight and the ability to cooperate are also necessities. Most Alastors work in coteries, as to be able to somewhat compensate for the personal puissance possessed by most of the members of the Red List.
Other Benefits
While the risks of working as an Alastor are considerable, so are the benefits. Firstly, Alastors are effectively immune to the powers of the Princes. They answer only to the Inner Circle and the Justicars. By and large, they are fit to pursue their targets as they please. Substantial resources are also made available to them. No Alastor will have to put in great effort to hunt or to secure a haven.
And then there are the rewards in case of success. Each name on the Red List is added by one of the great Clans of the Camarilla, at great cost. This system of sponsorship ensures, at least in theory, that names are never added frivolously. Only when a Clan has a substantial grievance against a given Kindred a name is added. That also means that when there are more candidates for an open spot on the list than there are places, the Clan that offers the highest prize is granted the privilege.
Operations
Workplace
Alastors work in small groups, often choosing a base of operations in an area they are familiar with. They then pick and choose a target, travelling after their last sighting and gathering information to the best of their abilities.
Dangers & Hazards
The dangers of hunting members of the Red List are substantial. No Clan would put a name on this list if the Kindred wasn't both elusive and dangerous, or they would have handled the matter internally.
Beyond that, this is incredibly variable. Some of the Anathema have left a trail of destruction in their wake, while others have effectively disappeared. Some of the danger a given Anathema poses can be gleaned from their Clan and reputation, but not all. Some are dangerous exactly because they have acquired some nefarious and hidden power.
