Sariah Maelin

Sariah Maelin

Sariah met the party when they arrived in Silver Ridge, and hired them to help her escort a group of civilians (including her adopted family) to the city of Nunas. Once the journey was over, Sariah had grown attached to the gang of quirky adventurers, and took a leave of abscence from the Silver Ridge Guard Corps to travel with them. On their adventures, Sariah usually takes a backseat in social and combat encounters, waiting and listening for an opportunity to make effective use of her skills. She is extremely compassionate and strict in her morals, but will not hesitate to make use of her physical prowess if the situation calls for it.

Personal history

Sariah grew up in the Lost and Found Orphanage, a largely underfunded and oversaturated service in the city of Silver Ridge. She didn’t know her birth parents. She was told by the caretakers at the orphanage she grew up in that her mother was a great hero, but couldn’t take care of a child with her career. She didn’t come with a name, so the head caretaker, Mira, gave her the name Sariah, which she was told was the name of one of Mira’s treasured friends.   She was on the streets for most of her life, only able to return to the orphanage for a single meal a day and a blanket on the floor at night. She learned how to beg, scam, and steal to survive the rest of her days, until the day she turned 12 and the orphanage was visited by an emissary of the church of Pan, a gruff old dwarf man with an arm made of living wood, who told the children of his adventures and the honor and glory in being a cleric. While most of the kids dismissed the man as some deluded preacher, he left his mark on Sariah, as well as his extreme teen bible. She was inspired to clean up her act and aim to pursue a career in the guard force, waiting for the day the dwarf returned to offer her a place among the clergy of Pan.   When she turned 14, she was adopted by a poor family in Silver Ridge to be a nanny for their young daughter, Tela (the easiest way to get free labour legally). She became like a big sister to Tela, and after some time, her adopted family eventually started treating her more like a daughter than hired help. With their support, she joined the Silver Ridge Guard Regiment at 17, aiming to eventually make a career in the Viabuedon military. On the side, she delved into the history of Pan, and eventually found writings of a forgotten shrine to the god of nature in the forests north of the city.
