Yuan-ti Pureblood
Species of Delvia
The serpent creatures known as yuan-ti are all that remains of an ancient, decadent human empire. Ages ago their dark gods taught them profane, cannibalistic rituals to mix their flesh with that of snakes, producing a caste-based society of hybrids in which the most snakelike are the leaders and the most humanlike are spies and agents in foreign lands.
Ages of discrimination and crusades against the "abominations" as most described them left the yuan-ti nearly eradicated. Only the most human-like managed to escape persecution. These remaining purebloods formed clans of their own, hiding in uncivilized mountains, completely isolated from society.
Basic Information
Anatomy
Purebloods were described as human-like but with minor reptilian features, such as snake-like eyes, a forked tongue, and patches of scales on their skin.
Purebloods had weights and heights in the same range as humans.
Genetics and Reproduction
Purebloods could mate with halfbloods or abominations but usually did not. Like other yuan-ti, they hatched from eggs and reached adulthood by twelve years of age. An average lifespan for any yuan-ti was 80 years, but attaining an age as great as 120 years was possible.
Ecology and Habitats
The pureblood tribes of Delvia favored mountainous terrain, most commonly found in the nation of Destov. Before the current regime, pureblood societies thrived, sometimes mingling with humans below. However, since the Zavoyt bloodline took power, the Destovian Empire has forced the yuan-ti into hiding deep within the craggy peaks of the mountains.
Additional Information
Social Structure
The yuan-ti were devout demon-worshipers. Their worship often involved bloody sacrifices. Most worshiped Sseth, with other serpentine deities that some have worshipped over the years either being masks worn by Sseth or a false deity of the Scaleless Ones. All yuan-ti must act in accordance with the Sacred Way of Sseth - that is, subtly. Whenever possible, yuan-ti choose manipulation over open confrontation, the whisper over the fang. Followers of the Sacred Way of Sseth know their foes, think ahead, and plan forward.
