Glittersand Isle
"I understand your curiosity, Mister Glanwell, but I still cannot endorse the use of our craft to venture there, it's just too much of a risk!" captain Ven Dalun had not been approached about a ship rental to visit Glittersand Isle in some time but turning away the curious zealots never seemed to get any easier. As the exasperated man stomped away, entranced by the idea of unending riches of the supposedly diamond encrusted isle, the captain sighed and returned to more pressing matters.
Geography
Just off the coast of Ankroth sits Glittersand island, seemingly abandoned. The center of the island features a cragged peak surrounded by other rocky outcroppings and maned with a gleaming sandy beach with sporadic trees and other plant life.
Localized Phenomena
When viewing the island from afar, especially at night when the moon is shining brightly, the sand will twinkle as though the beach itself is covered in thousands of glittering diamonds, this is how the island got its name.
History
Due to the island's alluring appearance, a steady interest has been held on the mainland. Several individuals have ventured to the island in order to investigate the sparkling beaches or to create an accurate log of the geography and inhabitants of the island, however, if any of those individuals made it back off the island, they never spoke of their visit and seemed to vanish completely; this phenomena led to the alternative name of "The Devouring Island". For this reason, whispers that the island is haunted with the washed up spirits of deceased sailors, hungry to bring new souls into their fold. Others postulate that the island is the lair of a greedy dragon whose trove of treasures is so great that it overflowed onto the beaches, causing the bright sheen of the sand. Still others believe that there is a long lost race of people who call the island home and, for some unknown reason, choose to remain isolated from the rest of the world and thus kill anyone who steps foot on the sands or gets otherwise too close to their dwelling.
Tourism
Due to the implicit danger of visiting Glittersand Isle, very few people choose to venture there, as the risk of their lives is too great to sate a simple curiosity. For this reason, tourism in the surrounding area is nonexistent or otherwise unknown.
