Job's Done

My Compass,   Job's done.   Words sound... a little richer this time. The new crew was a bit of a surprise, especially the debt boys. Can't fathom why Breadly put them together on one crew and brought them on this job. Probably something I wouldn't understand. Maybe he would find it amusing to see them fighting each other.   They worked out pretty well in the end.   All of them, really.   Remeel seems a competent sort, and knows how to leverage his guns with his magic in a way that I can respect, even if I don't understand a lick of it. The fights between him and Rxan had me worried for a moment, but I figured they would need to let it out now, or they would get into a worse scuffle later. Same with Rxan and Elliot.   Speaking of, Rxan's a dangerous sort, for reasons long beyond his cards. While the magic behind them is deadly, The mind behind them is dangerous for different reasons. The man doesn't seem to let that mask down all that well, or easily. The few times he did, he was forced too, and people like that are the most likely to snap when hit with something they can't fight or fuck their way out of. That hat has a lot to do with whatever mask he holds up, but after loosing it and everything else that happened... I don't think he'll be ready to open up about that for a while...   Not that I got room to talk.   Elliot...   What in the void can I say about him? He's confusing in a lot of ways. The man looks like he should be at home dashing between a forest hunting. He acts like he ain't worth the dirt he walks on. He's perceptive, can sling arrows like no one's business, and picked up how to toss the voidborn off the edge of the boat just from watching how the wheel worked and knowing it needed to be done.   That's not counting the...conversation we had before the shark fry. Elliot didn't seem like he had contracted Ecdysis, but I wasn't in my right mind to check him at the time. Another who fell into the void... I hope that ain't an omen to come.   Blood's been burning a little more than usual around my ankle. Roughness has spread since last time, too. Seems to expand when the area is healing. Might need to invest in some new boots, if the blood doesn't eat through them again. Clock is moving faster. Just hope I can find you before it claims me for the void. The call gets stronger every time I step away from it... Hope I have the strength to keep walking to you.   As for the crew, all three of them have some fire inside them that needs to find an outlet before they burn through their life.   As I sit here, I wonder, would you be proud of me, love? Would you see that I've tried to follow your last request...No, I slipped. Elliot, when he discovered my sickness, I lost myself. I was so close to hurting him, truly hurting him to keep him from telling everyone else...   Why did it have to happen right when I had enough to search for you in earnest? To claim the ship that would bring me back to you?   Or did it happen because I haven't paid enough of the void's price to find you again yet?   Void damn it... I miss you.   You always knew what to do.   I'll hold on.   I'll find you.   I
