Physical Description

General Physical Condition

Though not tall, Olur Thormok is heavy and strong, quite a bit stronger than most would guess given his height. He is a proficient brawler and wrestler, able to take down most opponents. He shrugs off blows that would leave most people dazed or unconscious.

Body Features

Olur's legs and arms are thick with muscle. He has a broad chest and thick waist, but not a lot of fat. He is much stronger and heavier than most people of his height.

Facial Features

Olur has prominent brow ridges, a heavy jaw, a stubby nose, narrow eyes, and no hair. People have remarked that he somewhat resembles an Orkrim, but saying so directly to him is likely to lead to an altercation.

Personal history

Olur Thormok is the properietor of the The Black Dragon Inn in the Dockton East district of Southport. He took over ownership of the inn just in the last five years after his father, the previous owner, died after a long illness. While he was ill, Olur learned the skills needed to run the inn from his father.
Olur has none of the friendliness and likability his father had that made the Black Dragon Inn successful. The clientele of the inn has gotten rougher and the inn more run-down since Olur's father passed away. Olur puts much less effort into maintaining the inn and making it attractive to more refined customers. Nevertheless, it still has plenty of business, though most customers are dockhands, sailors, and fishermen from Fishton.
Olur is by nature somewhat sullen and reserved, not given to small talk. Fortunately, his barkeep, Maria Luisa Genovese, and barmaid, Melissa Genovese, are lively, flirtatious twins that keep the clientele entertained. Olur is smart enough to pay them well and protect them from drunken, lecherous customers.
His somewhat short, stocky, muscular build and general appearance make some believe that Olur has Orkrim ancestry, though no one has ever asked him. It is possible that Olur himself doesn't know.
Olur grew up in a small house in the Dockton East district of Southport. His father was a big, jovial man that loved his family, but spent much of his time running the Black Dragon Inn away from home for long hours. Olur's mother stayed home to raise Olur and his younger sister, and nagged at her husband whenever he was home, picking at him for being away, despite the fact that the inn provided the family with a decent income. She yelled at Olur and his sister for every little infraction, and even when they did nothing wrong, and sometimes beat them. When Olur was eighteen and his sister sixteen, his sister ran away from home. Olur and his parents looked for her everywhere, and they reported her missing to the Royal Southport Constabulary, but she was neer found. Most people assumed she was able to board a ship voluntarily as a crew member, kidnapped by a gang, or maybe joined a caravan. Olur has been looking for her ever since, asking everyone he meets if they have seen her or have any news about her. He promises a substantial reward to anyone that finds her.
Never able to recover from the loss of her daughter, Olur's mother left home when he was 21. She reportedly left Southport headed toward Daskar with a trade caravan. He's had no contact with her since. After Olur's mother left, his father's health slowly declined, and he finally died when Olur was 32. His father was just 55 years old. Since that time, Olur has run the Black Dragon Inn with the help of the twins, Melissa and Maria Luisa.

Education

Olur has litle formal education, just some elementary schooling; however, his father taught him to read and write and do enough arithmetic to keep track of the inn's books.

Mental Trauma

Losing his father at a relatively young age was traumatic for Olur. He was never close to his mother, so he looked up to and relied on his father. Taciturn, even sullen, by nature, losing his father was a difficult blow. The twins, Melissa Genovese and Maria Luisa Genovese, have kept the inn running and provided him some friendship and support.

Intellectual Characteristics

Olur Thormok is not stupid, but not particularly intelligent, either. He has little, if any, intellectual curiosity, and prefers to deal with the here and now. Running the inn (most of which is handled by the twins, anyway), drinking with his friends from Dockton and Fishton, fishing from Fishermen's Dock, wandering around the market are his primary pastimes.
