Session V - 16.01.2020

General Summary

  • The group decides to split up: Everyone except Mert sleeps tonight in the Low Lantern to observe what is going on. Also, the group can interfere if Thalamra gets the magical device this way. Mert stays at their old inn and performs so that people do not suspect his/her connection to the rest of the group.
  • The next morning, Soran is turned invisible by one of Mert’s spells (who entered the Low Lantern in the morning through a window). Soran sneaks into Amrik's office. There, he gets ambushed by a woman who was hiding in the cabinet of the room. Soran manages to kick her out of the window of the room but fails at grasping a small satchel that she was holding (most likely containing the magical device of Amrick since there was nothing else left in the room). The group went meanwhile for breakfast. Upon the noise generated by the fight, the group enters the office (using their Flaming Fist copper badges). The woman now indeed tries to flee instead of fighting.
  • This way, a turbulent chase through Baldur’s Gate erupts. Here, the woman uses various tricks and also magic to gain an advantage on the group. Nevertheless, the group manages to follow her and eventually, pin her down (after two bolts from Soran). Soran (who had cast Disguise Self at the beginning of the chase) now “steals” the satchel (which indeed contains a small gem which fits to the description of Amrik’s magical device given by Mortlock) and flees. He instructs the others to follow him so that it appears as if the group and Soran are not working together (and that the group is not in the possession of the device). Of note, the group tracks her down (she turns out to be an elf) right before her entering the Vanthampur estate.
  • The group reports to Darmin Zodge again and the elf is brought to a tower where she is incarcerated. However, part of the group can interrogate her. Luckily, she seems not believe that the disguised Soran is not part of the group. She admits that she was working for Thalamra Vanthampur and her job was to secure the device. She hoped for power via this deal. Importantly, Barakas was probing her thoughts and found something terrifying: The elven woman apparently wanted to make a pact with someone called Zariel. This Zariel apparently wants to destroy Baldur’s Gate, just as he did with Elturel. Barakas decides that we keeps this information to himself for now.
