General Summary
The group discusses how to enter the Vanthampur estate. Plan: Mert turns herself invisible and creates a diversion in the stables (plus a minor diversion before by imitating rats). The guards then hopefully approach the stables. Meanwhile, the group can sneak in via one of the main gates (Soran picks the lock).
The plan works pretty well and the group can enter the villa via the main entrance. Everything is quiet. In the second room, the group encounters a magical winged cat (type: tressym; name: Slobberchops). Jo can befriend the cat so that it does not cause any noise. However, Mert decides to also enter the villa and sneak past the group without notifying the group. The tressym has blindvision and sees Mert who rapidly ascends the stairs since she wants to have the magical stone/bowl the group saw while scouting for herself. Soran notices the invisible Mert and asks her to show herself. Mert does not respond although Soran even threatens her to reveal herself (since he is not sure that the invisible creature is indeed Mert).
Importantly, another invisible creature seems to approach the group via the main entrance (the tressym hisses). However, the group climbs the stairs (Mert already took position in the hallway upstairs, waiting for the rest of the group to move). Soran is disguised as a guard and approaches one of the five guards on the first floor. Soran mentions the noises at the stables and demands that the guards come to help. He is very lucky that the guards here do not see through his deceit and they send of them to investigate the situation at the stables.
The rest of the group tries to hide in the meantime so that the guard can pass. However, Jo fails miserably and the load noise activates the guards. This leads to some weird reaction in Mert who casts “Shatter”, thereby destroying quite some parts of the first floor and hurting several of the guards.
This, obviously, leads to battle. Soran actually tries to not murder the guards (since the group is actually the intruder … well). The slender man in the room with the magic bowl tries to hide that in a box and Mert approaches him. He then casts several spells on Mert which ultimately lead (together with some magical weapon from a priest amongst the guards) to her being mortally wounded. Unluckily, Jo cannot heal Mert in time and Mert meets her ultimate demise. The slender male is later identified as Thurstwell Vanthampur and will be interrogated later. Importantly, he managed to summon two fiends which viciously attack the group and lead the guards outside of the house (the ones investigating the stables) to flee in panic. Of note, during the battle, Mert casts a Sleep spell which revealed the above-mentioned invisible creature - an Imp. No one knows where it was coming from but the group decides to kill the beast while it is still asleep.
The evening ends with the group ready to explore the villa and interrogate Thurstwell.
