Session XXVII - 22.06.2021

General Summary

• The session starts as the characters want to make their way back from the third trial of Tiamat. Suddenly, the tower begins to shake and loud noises can be heard. Hence, the characters make haste. Before being able to leave the tower, our heroes have to face a group of animated constructs which they defeat. Thereafter, the group flies down from the Tower of Tiamat (which is actually a different plane than Avernus) with the help of Darrak being wildshaped and Darius using his new spell powers to polymorph others into giant eagles.
• Back in Avernus, the group realizes that they are lost and that the terrain has been altered. Darrak sees a hut in the mountains nearby and after a short rest, our heroes approach the hut. Inside the hut, they encounter a devil named Fhjull who is not at all hostile. He has lost his horns and wings. Fhjull helps the characters, offers fresh water, gives them spell scrolls, and access to various tomes as well as ten soul coins. It becomes apparent that he is somehow "cursed" to help others and foster their needs. He claims that he was once a very powerful advocate in hell, even having met the almighty Asmodeus. Furthermore, he knows Gargauth (whom he belittles as Gargauth is now imprisoned in the Shield of the Hidden Lord) and Bel. He mentions that the characters might want to approach Bel and offer him Gargauth in the shield - apparently, Bel and Gargauth hated each other for centuries and this might be a good way to obtain the blood of a Pit Fiend which the heroes need for the ritual to restore Lulu's memory (Bel is a Pit Fiend). Furthermore, Fhjull tells the characters which direction they have to take to get out of the mountain range which is magically altered to mislead wanderers. He also examines Athanatos' pendant which apparently carries a part of the soul of the demon. Lastly, the group asks him how he was cursed and he claims that in ages past, a false claim by a deva called Seraphon lead to his downfall. This deva was apparently defending his sister Seraphina who broke an infernal contract. Darius is obviously worried about this and wants to investigate further ...
