Session XXVIII - 31.08.2021

General Summary

• The session starts with the group still being at the home of Fhjull. They gather some more information on how Fhjull got into his current position (i.e., failing in his job as an infernal lawyer): Seraphina apparently made a bargain with the archduke of Avernus at that point in time (Drak'thul). She needed desperate help on a crusade and requested infernal troops to support the unmatched heavenly soldiers. The archduke agreed but requested 1/2 of the souls of the place that Seraphina swore to protect). Seraphina agreed but after the battle was won, she just pushed the archduke away which caused the "law suit" in the first place. This made it a clear case for Fhjull. However, when Seraphina was at court, the contract document could not be found back. Fhull suspects that Seraphina's brother, Seraphon, stole the contract. As there was no evidence then, Seraphina was free to go and Fhjull would face punishment (see last session). Interestingly, Seraphon disappeared thereafter (ca. 50 years ago, so at the time when Elturel was almost destroyed).
• Suddenly, Fhjull and the group hear flapping sounds from the outside: Three dragonborns plus a winged creature who were looking for Jo (likely to take revenge for the nasty business at Tiamat's temple). The group wants to omit bloodshed and hides in the cellar of Fhjull's house. Only Barakas stays upstairs, protected by an Invisibility spell. As the dragonborns deman from Fhjull to get access to the cellar, eventually a battle breaks lose during which all of the draconic pursuers of the group get killed.
• Thereafter, the group makes haste to get back to the Infernal Warmachine. However, before that, Barakas takes all notes on the case of Seraphina with him to study them properly and Darius decides to confront Seraphina during her next "visit" (likely leading a dream to become a nightmare). At the Infernal Warmachine, the group finds devil corpses (dead for two to three days, carrying Zariel's insignia). Luckily, Lulu and Laenwynn are unharmed. Apparently, the Warmachine got attacked by these devils some days ago and under the dread and stress of this assault, Lulu found one of her old powers back - namely to transform into a Giant War Mammoth! Unfortunately, this did not cause Lulu to regain any more memories as to where she had hidden Zariel's sword.
• The group decides to take a long rest in the Warmachine before traveling further to the Mirror of Mephistar - a portal to Stygia, another layer of hell. As they arrive there, a sole devil guards the mirror (which appears to be an icy wall). Will our heroes need to strike down the devil or will he demand a bargain?
