Session XXXI - 09.11.2021

General Summary

  • The session starts as the characters reach the large chamber of ice deep in Stygia. Here, they can release the souls (including those of the gnome family and friends of Barakas) from the sould conductor. To this end, they have to perform a ritual to guide the souls and contain their hatred.
  • Unfortunately, the ritual fails, and so some members of the party take serious damage. Nevertheless, there is a brief moment during which Barakas can commute with the now free souls of his mother and father. Reunited for a brief moment, Barakas' friends stand still as they witness their gnome friend saying "Goodbye" to his loved ones. After the souls have departed, a small glass marble from his childhood is left behind - a trinket from his childhood that he can use as a magical focus from now on. Now, his friends approach and comfort him.
  • Moments later, the ice cavern starts to crumble and so the heroes make haste to flee, especially in light of the giant trapped demon below the ritual chamber in which the group had just released the trapped souls.
  • On their way out, the group has to fight a group of ice demons / creatures which block the way. Despite taking some hefty hits, the heroes manage to destroy the creatures and so they can flee from the cavern. They rush back over the bridge which lead to the cavern (some group members get attacked by flying demons, luckily without serious damage) and take the portal back to Avernus. Here, they meet Devoth again but spare only few words before heading back to their Infernal Machine. They had helped their friend Barakas with his personal quest, but now they must continue with their main quest to free Elturel. Their next goal would be the lair of Bel where they hoped to get the blood of a Pit Fiend (either from Bel himself or via trading Gargauth trapped in the Shield of the Hidden Lord to Bel).
