Session XXXIV - 18.01.2022

General Summary

• The session starts as the characters have accused Grath of being a traitor and having stolen the three magical rods of Bel. While Bel takes care of Grath, the group investigates Grath's chamber to see whether he had hidden the rods there.
• The group overcomes the magical barrier protecting the door by powerful dispelling magic of Barakas and sheer force of Jo. In the chamber the group finds a chest which is again protected by arcane magic (necromancy). Again Barakas can dispel the magic and the chest can be opened. Here, the group finds three magical potions and the robe that Grath was wearing at the ball.
• As they have no further clue, Darius examines the robe and finds the miniaturized creatures inside. He asks the small humans in the robe about the rods and they point to the wall behind Grath's bed, indicating that some sort of gate was opened by Grath here. Barakas examines the spells that were used to miniaturize the humans as well as animals and devils and concludes that it is some form of a permanent Enlarge/Reduce spell. Darius takes the robe with him to be able to free the humans (and animals) once they are safe. 
• Darrak now examines the wall behind Grath's bed only to find it to be too "perfect". This together with the evidence of transmutation magic that allows the changing of stone, leads Darrak to believe that the stone was removed magically and then brought back. The group now starts to hack away the stone only to run in what appears to be the servants of Grath (two madcaps who wake up an insectoid creature as a fight erupts). The group manages to slay the foul creatures only to find the three rods that Bel was looking for in a chest.
• The group brings the rod to Bel who congratulates them and asks them to keep the rods as they will be crucial in their fight against Zariel (the three rods together with the soul fragment of Mert that Athanatos holds can be used to rewire the magic in The Companion which hangs above Elturel - if Zariel was to activate The Companion again once the rods have been activated there, The Companion would be destroyed). Besides this, the group retrieves the blood of Bel which is needed for the ritual of Mad Maggie to restore Lulu's memory. This comes in the form of a powerful magic armor for Athanatos that can conjure Bel's blood. Athanatos retrieves this armor as a trade for the Shield of the Hidden Lord as Bel wants to tortute Gargauth who was trapped in the shield for all eternity. Lastly, the group receives 50 soul coins from Bel.
• With this new equipment, the group decides to head for the southwest to look for Maggie's sister who is apparently somewhat attuned to nature. Maybe here the group could find a unicorn whose hair the last component for the Maggie's ritual would be.
