Piradi

Originally known as the Havanir; that term now refers to members of The Order of Havani.

Culture

Culture and cultural heritage

Though the Piradi are largely matriarchal, their genealogy is patrilineal so as to differentiate between the descendants of Havani's chosen men and those that fell into dishonor in the beginning.

Shared customary codes and values

Almost all Piradi consider themselves followers of Havani. Protecting and nurturing the people, creatures, and environment around them are crucial values; when these values are neglected, the offenders are confronted and either put right or removed from the community.

Common Etiquette rules

Piradi share much of what they own. For example, libraries aren't especially prominent in Piradi due to people passing around their own books to one another.

Common Myths and Legends

Almost universally, Piradi believe in The Birth of the Havanir.

Historical figures

Fer-Aven is one of the most famous Piradi leaders.

Ideals

Gender Ideals

Women are generally more respected than men, considered wiser, more peaceful, and more nurturing. They’re often given more powerful positions than men.   Childbearing and mothering are honorable jobs, while hunting and the like are considered necessary evils, seeing as they harm animals.   Leadership, however, is still considered important and honorable, and it’s still a father’s responsibility to lead his family in proper Piradi values, like the few righteous men in the beginning. Thus why there are still any male leaders in Piradi at large. They’re always much more carefully vetted, though.

Courtship Ideals

Because the first conflict was due to men fighting over a woman, Piradi culture allows women to choose men and never the other way around. A man may turn down a woman, but it’s usually considered rude to do so. Marriage is highly encouraged because it pairs one woman with one man to ensure that the woman is protected and respected. Unions are overseen by Havani’s priests (generally a Cimbir). Unions are for life and may not be dissolved or violated; those who violate unions are cast out of their Piradi communities.
