The Arena
The Arena is a place where fighting tournaments take place. Tournaments now take place 25 day before Winter and Summer Solstice and ends on the Solstice. When the tournament start, fighters will spend those 25 days inside the Arena, seldom leaving the premises.
Purpose / Function
The Arena is now used for Tournaments and as training ground for the fighters.
History
Until the beginning of the Era of Sovereign, the Arena was used for Death Matches as entertainment for royalty.
Death Matches were between either the Arena Champion and another well loved fighter, between two fighters or a monster and a fighter.
The more popular matches were those between a Champion and fighter. While fights would take place once a week, because of it's popularity Champion matches would take place 25 days before the Winter and Summer Solstice, making it quite the event. People form far and wide, poor and rich would travel to Azad to watch it.
It was also common practice that when a fight would take place people would save some money so they were able to place bets.
People believed that Champion matches were a way to earn money quickly, and they were not wrong.
The largest betting pool every recorded was in the year 63 EO during a Champion Match between the then Champion; Morvenom and the Loved Fighter; Nikolas. The betting pool was around 800.000 GP, with a headcount of 30.000 attendees.
