Caussaulka

The northernmost nation on the Eastern continent, Causaaulka has scraped out a kingdom in the frozen wastes they call home. Somehow, they have doggedly climbed their way to position themselves as one of the powers of the region. Even if they did so, seemingly, in spite of the usual markers of what elevates a nation to legendary status.   The first question most probably have is: "How does anyone live in the ice wastes?". What grows there is hardy and rough, and the animals are largely the same. Hard to eat, and relatively tasteless. This climate almost never relents year-round, always frozen and dark. As such, there is about a months time celebrated whenever the sun peaks it's head out, and there isn't a proper "growing season" like there is in other places. Instead, the Caussaulkites have developed an impressive combination of architecture and godcraft.   Essentially relying on specially constructed hothouses, their unique architectural style (the most famous facet of which is the tall spires capped with raindrop shaped domes present on many of the largest buildings) is used to great effect. Those domes, gaudy as they might be for some, house godcrafted gardens and animal pens. Insulated against the cold, the heated interriors allow for the most delicate of foodstuffs to be grown and raised in the harshest of their winters. Some even feature circulatory systems for water and waste.   Even if their food problem is somewhat remedied, if you ignore the fact that they require much more preparation and rely almost entirely upon the towers to sustain themselves that is, their problems are far from over.   Caussaulka might be the northmost entity to be considered a nation, but they aren't the northernmost group and not by a longshot. Heading further north on the Eastern continent, into the lands that are well and truly frozen wastes with no redeeming qualities, and you'll find many tribes that eek out a living amongst themselves. Just as likely as to wiped out by their environment as they are to wipe out each other. One bad hardscrabble crop or sickness in a heartherd, and those people and all their history will be wiped from the face of history, everything that they were consumed by the ice and snow.   And yet they persist.   Called Northlingsby those that don't know any better, the reality of the situation is that they constantly pressure Caussaulka along their northern border. Raiding parties and great hosts of poorly equipped but tenacious tribesmen, united by some warlord or another regularly jab, pick, and claw at the fortifications known as the The Zashik Wall

Military

The Caussaulkan army can be most accurately described as an army of dragoons. The kozark's, the unit that makes up most of the army, are horse soldiers trained to fight on foot as well and the dedicated infantry exists in large part to facilitate the movements and strikes of the soldiers on horseback. Opening up gaps in the line so Kozarks can take advantageous positions or take out sections of the enemy command structure.    Godspun animals make a regular appearance, and are commonly fashioned to be in line with the animal symbols associated with a noble house or the the family that currently reigns as Tzar(ina)   The gods that are in military service are often elemental in nature, ice in larger amounts than anything else.

The Cold is a Double Edged Sword, Yet we Grip it Fully

The landscpe of Caussaulka is inhospitable, and draws only young adventurers and industrialists attempting to tap into a market they think has yet to be so.    And yet the balls and gallas that are thrown by it's ruling class are legendary the world over. The Tzar even constructed a palace in the port city of Yegovartovsk solely for that purpose.
