Godhound

While not gods themselves, Godhounds are a type of demigod (or so we assume) that has an innate ability to discover the spark of divinity within other people.    How they do so is a mystery, and varies between each individual Godhound in any case. Some catch a specific scent, like oranges and vanilla, or the coppery scent of the butcher's parlor. Other's see a faint aura of light or smoke. Others still simply get a sense like vertigo or euphoria when brought close enough to one.    For a world that relies on it's gods, the Godhounds are an equally important part of society, though their powers are only able to identify someone who is a god, not their domain or make a projection of their natural power.

Career

Payment & Reimbursement

Godhounds are payed enough, in most nations, to put them in the upper-middle class. As long as they work diligently and effectively, and provide their abilities to their government. Some Godhounds do freelance work, which can leave them destitute or very rich, depending on luck and their skill at sniffing out divinity for the right people.

Viewed in much the same light as a governmental pencil pusher. Their state-run job is respected, but in most countries the Godhounds themselves have very little authority. Simply seeking to find prospective gods, and rarely asked to do anything other than report on their findings.
