Pearl-Diver's Jester

An undersea plant that is most famous for the hard nodules it grows along it's seaweed like length.
Identical to the touch, sight, and feel of mother-of-pearl, you could easily pass them off as real pearls to even a trained appraiser. The only way to differentiate between the two would be to use significant force to crush them and reveal the inside of what is ostensibly a berry, or attempt to melt them down.
Depending on the exact species, the flavor can have a pretty large degree of difference, though all of them have some hint of sweetness to the flavor. Either being cloyingly so, or barely noticeable. Some of them can have secondary flavors as well. Mint, or cinnamon, or honey, etc. All further augmented by the hypothetical ingredients that are added during the brewing process.
The results of the brewing are not inherently alcoholic, either. If one wishes to get drunk off of the finished product, something that ferments must be placed within the brew and be allowed to do it's business.
The name is derived from the fact that loose berries from the plant would be scattered by the waves, and Pearl Divers trolling the sea floor would scoop up handfuls before coming to the surface and realizing their error. Some say that the name comes from the process of attempting to figure out if the berries are actually pearls or not. If you have accidentally picked up a pearl, you will destroy it in your attempts to determine it's origins.
