The M'Bakau

Literally translating as "Resting Place of War", the M'Bakau is an island residing in the middle of raging rapids.
Hugely significant to the culture of Adakhu, the island was and still is used to settle arguments between people and parties. When an issue was seen as significant enough, two or more participants would be chosen and provided with their tribe's traditional weapons. On a selected date, the involved parties would attempt to swim across the river (usually from opposite sides of the river when possible) and reach the center island. When they reach there, away from prying eyes, the subjects of the trial will fight in hand to hand until all but one is dead or yields.
The victor and their side is viewed as the righteous party.
