Tombwillow
A species of tree adjacent to the swamp willow, Tombwillow's name makes it sound more sinister than it actually is.
The trees branches are short, stocky, and grow close together. If the tree grew leaves like the average tree, it's foliage would be rather dense because of this, but instead the Tombwillow has long chains of leaves that droop down towards the ground. These chains can grow long enough, usually in the later half of the trees life, to brush the ground or even create a sort of carpet on the ground under the trees branches.
A great source of shade in the Lairdian summers, many animals will often use it as shelter or a nice comfortable place to pass away. This is where the trees name comes in. The tree's chains of leaves have a secondary purpose, other than looking ready for a painting, in the collection of excess nutrients from the ground around the the tree. It does not damage the life around it, unlike the more predatory trees out in the wilds, but instead finds what has already perished, then covers it in a blanket of it's chains of leaves. Over time, this 'tomb' assists in the natural breakdown of the body, pulling nutrients from the rotting thing beneath it's leaves.
There is a rather famous poem, known as The Soft and Summer Lands, that is perhaps most known for it's depiction of the Tombwillow and it's draping leaves. Immortalized inThis is not a common thing, however, and is a rare sight to even the most fervent naturalists. Implying that there are some special conditions that have to be met for it to occur, thought what those are is unknown.
