The Cataclysm

Also known as The Fracture, The Godswar, The Fall of The Edyllys Empire, or simply The Fall. What truly happened during the Cataclysm is unknown, but most scholars agree that the gods of evil destroyed much of the known world, requiring the deities of good to save the known world.
Some argue that the gods of evil were imprisoned, but this is disputed on the basis that evil still exists in the world. Others claim that the realm of the gods and mortals was once one, and was split in two.
Magic appears to have changed after the Cataclysm, many wondrous magical artifacts from The Edyllys Empire remain which scholars are unable to comprehend. Most scholars believe that much magic knowledge was simply lost and must be rediscovered, while others believe that the fundamental nature of magic has changed, and all that remains of the old magic is that which was trapped in material objects that survived The Cataclysm.
