What is a Salon LARP

DFWLarp is played as a "Salon LARP". Salon LARPs are events where the primary focus is on style and narration. As part of this, challenges that occur in game are resolved through die pool mechanics, meaning the points of your character reflect how "good" you are at accomplishing a specific goal. This style of LARP focuses heavily on social interactions, with a fair amount of problem saving. When combat occurs between player characters and non player characters (or between different player characters), these challenges are also resolved entirely through die pool mechanics.
It is important to note that in no case should players be actually representing combat activities by attempting to actually act these activities out. Unlike an action ("boffer") style LARP, players should not be "striking" other players, even with mock weapons.
Players are awarded experience points in Salon LARPs based upon a set of established criteria, including attendance, cosplay efforts towards your character, and online participation between events. Players do not have to resolve specific tasks or storylines in order to receive experience points. In fact, it is entirely possible to have your character completely uninvolved with storyline events, and still receive the same amount of experience as a player who attempts to engage all the current storylines. Players are limited to a maximum of 10 experience points per month (not counting storyteller approved experience events).
