Isindar

Isindar can be divided into six major sections. The average citizen calls these the Old City, the New City, the Fauburg, Dockside and Cliffside. The Old City, which was already mentioned in this document, was the original city of Isindar and spreads west of castle Yorand. Ikkt has been renovated many times over the centuries, and is now the wealthiest sector of the city, as it is the home to the city's banks, best markets, and the Citadel of Radiant Light, the city-within-a-city whose proud building act both as the seat of the classic Vaëlian religion and as Fyron’s High Tribunal. The Old City is also home to Isindar's best inns and civilized games room, and boasts of its wide roads and many hidden gardens and parks.   The New City is the second-oldest walled-off section of Isindar and forms a crescent shape around the Old City. The New City is split in two by the Faldarsar River, which runs off the Old City moat. The North bank, also called the Scholar's City, is home to the Royal Academia of Fyron and the Royal Library of Fyron. It consists mainly of university buildings, student accommodations and cheap restauration and entertainment. The South Bank, or Artisan's City, is where the headquarters to all major artisan guilds are situated in the city. It is known for its intricately decorated buildings; hence, the smithies are decorated with artwork from the forge, the glassworks' windows are stained glass and the painters' studios are painted, to name a few examples.   The Fauburg, the third section of Isindar built after the city jumped its walls a second time, spreads south of the first two sections, encircling a hill upon which is built a second stone keep half as big as Yorand castle. This is the home to the headquarters of the City Guard of Isindar, also called goldjackets, the military force directly answering to the King or Queen. They are in charge of keeping the peace and upholding city laws. Unlike the older sections of town, the Fauburg is characterised by a series of steep, winding roads overlooked by the jettied stories of houses. With Dockside, the Fauburg is where poor people and people of small wealth mix.   Dockside is the district situated north of the city and of Yorkeep. Its construction started when the old kings of Fyron decided to build a port in the city instead of relying on the docks of Silverhed down south. Since the inside sea was too shallow for boats, the kings decided to build the city onto the inside sea, resulting in a series of artificial islands separated by waterways. The poor (called Quackers) mostly rule this district, save for the King's Docks sub-district, which is luxurious and well-maintained.   Cliffside, the final district of Isindar, is a district south of the city belonging to the rich's manors and city villas. These area is comprised of estates extending to the foot of the southern Apers mountains..   There are rumours in the city of a seventh, underground city built in a series of caves under Isindar. This would be Isindar's underworld, which would be the criminal under-city. It has many names, and is most commonly called "The City of Broken Glass", "The City of Shadows", "The Kingdom of Thieves" or, jokingly, "The Gates of Gorgoz".

The city is run by a council consisting of elected representants of the guilds of the different districts, of the goldjackets and of the Citadel of Radiant Light. This council is headed by the mayor who is named by the King himself. They are in charge of voting for municipal laws and upholding the infrastructure, among other things.

Defences

Natural defenses include the Faldarsar River, the Erguelach to the west, and the Northern and Southern Apers moutains to the north and south. Man-built defenses include adstrumite-incrusted palissades which are designed to absorb energy and use it to charge the weapons guarding the walls. A permanent garisson of the Fyronian army is always on patrol, and major weaknesses are protected by small absorbent shields.

Industry & Trade

The main source of revenue is trade and control of the access of the Winterwind Stormrift to Ejian. Isindar is also known for its craftsmen, particularly its blacksmiths and stone carvers, and its professionals such as architects and engineers.

Infrastructure

Isindari pride themselve in their infrastructure which includes everything from basic things such as roads, bridges, waste managements, sewage and runing water to Ejii'aari-grade advanced structures such as lifts, floating gardens and public transportation. These accomodations are more available in the Old City, the New City and Cliffside, and in King's port, but the older, well established sections of the Fauburg, Dockside and Gates district. The walls encircling the Old City, the New City, Fauburg and Cliffside collect heat, light and occasionally lightning through adstrumite circuits, and Ejii'aari technology enables the stored energy to be used as a source of power for various buildings around the city.

Assets

Isindar is a major trade city, with all the assets this entails. It is also known for its library and banks.

Architecture

Fyronian architecture in Isindar tends to have strong Ejii'aari influences which means that they enjoy clean lines and curves that reach for the sky. Strumar, the non-precious form of adstrumite that only absorbs light, is used strategically for nighttime illumination.

Geography

Terrain is a steep valley sloping down west to east with the Great Lake to the west. On a clear day, someone looking east from the top of the Citadel of Radiant light or Yorand can see all the way to the farmlands of lower Yers Falmoren and the Silverpeak Mountains.
