The War of Seven Kings (Fifth Realmwar)

Military action

869AR
1178AR

The Adstrumite arms race and the discovery of Adstrumite veins in Andellion and on other Realms leads to a power struggle between Athor and Therebanthe which escalates into a full Andellian conflict.

The War of Seven, or, as it is formally known in history books, the War of the Seven Kings, was a three hundred-year series of conflicts spanning from roughly 870 A.R. to roughly 1180 A.B. (as usual, no history book agrees, historians being contrary creatures who absolutely refuse to admit that one of their peers might be right and not themselves). On the contrary to what the name suggests, the conflict involved not seven, but nine kingdoms (it seems that on top of killing creativity, the Blight has also killed humankind's ability to count properly): Fyron, Athor, Therebanthe, Norsa, Amrekyan, Wedran, Kerdaante and the now obliterated Cadunn and Yigrail.   No-one exactly knows how the war ended up pitting the nine kingdoms one against the other. One thing that is known is that the war sparked due to political instability in Andellion. First, there was the Silver Throne War, which started in 865 A.B. approximately, between Fyron, Tereben and Athor. This was due to the fact that Athor's throne had been left heirless by inbred-crazy king Armid who had killed off all his sons to prevent them from killing him for the throne (he was killed by one of his daughters instead, Princess Frela). The conflict itself began because Frela, who was married to the prince of Tereban, claimed the throne of Athor for her son as she had been the one to kill her father (of course, the claim was impractical, as even back then Athor and Therebanthe (the future Thienath and Terebanthe were on opposite ends of the Vaëldr). Her older sister, Kyrain, contested her sister's claim, as her own son, the prince of Fyron, had been born first and of the eldest of the two siblings. Athor erupted into civil war, with Fyron and Therebanthe both supporting the two factions and fighting between themselves. In Fyron, the duchies of Heitor and Aldron both used the war against Therebanthe to declare their independance, but these fiefs had the support of Cadunn, which, in reality, wanted to acquire both Heitor and Aldron in order to gain access to the Iören sea. Norsa, which had been prevented from declaring war on Wedran by Wedran's alliance with Athor (which used to spread a lot further north than it does actually), used Athor's distraction to attack Wedran, earning itself Athor's wrath (under the form of an attack by Athor's ally, Amrekyan) and Ygrail's and Fyron's alliance. From what can be gathered from the history books, which all seem to become quite confused by this point in Andellion's history, Kerdaante had decided that the confusion was the best moment to start building settlements on the Andellian mainland, and therefore it got dragged into the military conflict as well.
