Letter from Grognard to Bastion, 2022 07 30

Bastion, my boy,
Time is short, so I will make this missive as much. I am sure many things are finally coming to Light and I am sure you won't think of me as good as a person as you might have in the past. I have had to make many decisions, many which don't make me proud -- but they were always essential.
I have long been aware of some serious dangers that could destroy this universe and so I've had to make some decisions for people in attempts to stop such events. I am sure much of this has been confusing, and I apologize. I took you in a long time ago and the truth is that I even set events in motion to manipulate the outcome of that event. I hope you don't judge Smiles so harshly, I magically controlled his actions that day when he seemed to attack me.
The truth that is important right now is that you and your party seem to be on the right path to stop the next major event which means I can finally go investigate more about what happened to your parents.
Something I never told you before is that I knew them. I adopted you to protect you out of my love for them. I still can't tell you much more yet -- but soon.
In the meantime, it is very important to find Jinx and let her know of your travels. This will assist me in ways I can't get into right now.
I have made many mistakes in my lives, but I like to think that taking care of you was not one of them. You are more special than I can say. Take care of yourself and your Friends, the world depends on it.
