Most of this is technically myth, and some has been told by gods, but no one can be certain what is true in these times -- not even the gods.
Everything before The Age of Explorations as the Elves begin to quabble and lose their place as main stewards of this realm. Much of this is still considered myth or unknown by most people.
It used to be The First World, and then it was Toril, and then it was nothing..
Now it is a world with gods, monsters, elves and other life once again returned.
It used to be...
nothing.
and now it's...
a world with life.
