Episode Fifty-seven - Neverwinter Never Rests
General Summary
Aldrich and Thorum had just made their way back from the wall when Arion and Razael exited the Hall of Justice in Neverwinter. Together they discussed bringing Calaeriel and Varis back to life and opted to find scrolls of regeneration. Together they trekked to the Shining Knight Arms & Armor where they worked a deal for some spell scrolls. The deal would see them re-enter the sewers that sundered their compatriots in the first place but once the deal was struck they returned to their fallen companions. With Nardolm, the cleric of Tyr's, help, they revived and regenerated the limbs of their fallen.
After a stay at the Moonstone Mask, Arion, Aldrich, Calaeriel, Razael, Thorum, and Tokin all returned to the Shining Knight with Arion and Aldrich but Varis would leave them there. Next, the heroes walked the perimeter of the wall before The Chasm. At the gate the party fought a group of bandits who were trying to open the gate.
With his new weapon Giant Slayer, Aldrich split open the rib cage of one bandit as Calaeriel dashed another with her magic missile. Tokin then exploded a thug, a wererat, and a giant rat with his hammer as the bandit captain scurried up the ladder like a rat to open the gate. Upon him all at once, Arion cut off his hand and the bandit died mainly from freight but his prior wounds aided his fall. Aldrich then channeled text he'd read in an old writing, as Calaeriel and Thorum finished off several combatants, and he sundered two combatants himself.
Aldrich had declared, "in brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight."
After the battle the group met Seldra, a spy working for Neverember, and she directed them toward the Dead Rat Gang, of whom the bandits were very likely members. The group then opted to return to the Moonstone Mask and stay awhile. Cassie, a ranger from the Shining Knight, spent her evenings with Aldrich while Varis spent his evenings alone working on new items. Razael returned to his duties but Calaeriel found friendship.
Calaeriel became fast friends with the innkeeper as she spent her nights drinking down stairs. On their final night's stay, on the 3rd of Ches, Liset Cheldar invited Calaeriel back to her place only to bite her and transform Calaeriel into her vampire spawn. Liset gave Calaeriel a ring and charmed her into going out and fooling her friends, commanding her to say nothing of what has happened to your companions.
On the morning of the 4th of Ches, the party set out once more; this time destined for the House of a Thousand Faces. Inside they pried information out of a drunken halfling named Charl who told them the location of the Dead Rat hideout as well as an alliance between the Sons of Alagondar, the Harpers, and the Dead Rats. He also told them that the Harpers were less then enthused to be working with the Dead Rats by way of the Sons. Unknown to those whom approached, Theryis the Elf owner and Thoram the Half-Elf bard, they proposed that they represented an unknown third party to the Sons and the Dead Rats and offered a meeting with the Sons should the party rid the world of the Dead Rats.
Out in the world again and after witnessing a combative loss between twig blights and Dead Rats, on the part of the Dead Rats, the party watched on and waited as Varis's familiar scouted the tunnels below.
