Episode Sixty-two - Masked Vengeance
General Summary
After planning an attack on the hags the party sent out Varis' contraption of an owl, Archimedes. Through Archimedes' eyes they learned that the hag's servant was being sent toward them. After running that redcap off, Banrion agreed to an attack on the hags as they marched toward what they thought was a weakened unicorn.
Once they crossed onto the tower bridge that lead up to the party's defensive ground, Calaeriel hurled aVaris adjustment apparatusredcap died on impact as its spine snapped on a rock. Though injured, the witches survived the hundred foot fall but Arion was quick on the bow he's long abandoned using. He strung it and fired a shot into Mother Mole's gut before planting another shot in her cheek. While Thorum and Varis approached the chasm edge, Calaeriel hurled another Fireball and killed Mother Mole where she laid. The two remaining hags then turned invisible after Arion shot Mother Skunk with an arrow but Banrion stomped a great magic into the chasm and dispelled their magic. With an opening, Aldrich wrought his divine Moonbeam down upon them and killed Mother Stag with radiant light. Calaeriel seized the moment to cast down another Fireball at Arion's bidding and burned the flesh from Mother Skunk. As she clung to the last vestiges of her life, Arion fired an arrow through her chest and then, as she looked down at the hole, sent one through the top of her head and out of the back of her neck.
In the aftermath, Aldrich asked Banrion about the Hall of Four Ghosts and she told him that an Elf named Annatar had headed that way per the information of her husband, a flying unicorn Annatar tried to recruit. The heroes then determined that Annatar was likely the Elf that gave them the false name Normenor, that he had likely already captured the hall and had nefarious purposes. Further from the initial aftermath, the party burned the home of the hags after having some hippogryphs help them escape the plateau.
Along their journey northeast, the party were called in by harpies, with Thorum, Calaeriel, and then Varis being lured in by them. Arion in true fashion,Calaeriel, and Varis followed suit.AldrichAldrichdeceiverfired a thunderous shot that cracked another tree into pieces. Thorum then stabbed into the armless harpy, killing her, before he stabbed another nearby. She was keen on killing Varis but Aldrich severed one of her wings and killed her rightly. That night at camp, while Arion and Varis were on watch, a portal opened in the woods and two figures emerged.
"Praise her name, there they stand!" A hideous voice called, "slaughter them in the name of Beshaba and send the Masked Lord's regards!"
The creatures charged up to Arion and with a gaze, sundered him. Aldrich rushed toward them with Calaeriel, who could see them in the darkness thanks to her vampiric vision. She promptly cast Fire Bolt aselectricwhat the hell did you do to me you son of a bitch?"
Grabbing his holy symbol, Aldrich heard the voice of a woman whisper in his ear, do it, as he forced his will into his amulet and a radiance burst forth from him. As the creature turned and ran from the light, Calaeriel splashed a firebolt into its back. Arion then slashed into the creature several times as Aldrich charged up to join him along with Calaeriel. She pulled the hood from the beast revealing its face to be that of a Bodak as her Chill Touch seared its flesh. As her blade pierced its body, the creature howled and fell.
Arion stooped over the beast and bid, "send my regards to Bashaba."
They then returned to camp on to find a dagger firmly planted in Thorum's throat. His death was shocking to all but the horror befell Aldrich the worst. As soon as their small investigation was concluded and tracks found, they burst forth with overwhelming energy and hunted the tracks of the creatures that killed their companion after they placed him in their Bag of Holding.
Upon the creature, Aldrich was overwhelmed by his anger and flung himself forward. He cast his shield aside as he charged the Bodak running from them and tore into it with a smite from his divine. Arion followed suit and as Varis fired upon the creature. Aldrich continued to hack and hack as Calaeriel charged up but Arion's blade was through it in another moment.
"Send my regards to the Masked Lord."
Through the foliage to the west a voice called, "I will fucking end you, you abomination." As something chased another Bodak into view in the clearing.
Calaerielstrikesuggest the party have a chat with whatever Masked Lord was attempting to assassinate them, he blasted the Bodak with a ray of ice. Arion dashed toward the creature as it spoke his name along side Aldrich but as another blast of ice passed them, it too spoke Varis' name. Upon the beast, a third shot rung out from the arcanist and it froze and cracked down into nothingness.

The man introduced himself as Sir Ursas' agent, named Cretch. He bid Arion read a letter meant for him, calling him to a manor in Olistin's Hold for a quest important to all good and freefolk. The party agreed to accompany him, mostly in hopes of reviving Thorum, and set out that very moment. Before dawn, the pressed on.
