The Divine Light is the most widespread religion in the lower Castes, and the main spiritual rival to the Church of Ra. In contrast to the Church’s teachings that salvation will come from the Sun, the Divine Light advocates that there is an Eternal Flame burning underneath the ground, and only those touched by its light will receive the gift of the afterlife.
Although the location of the Flame has never been revealed, many surrogate flames burn in caves underneath major cities around the world. The Divine Light has become popular through its charity work, drawing those in need and desperation and growing its numbers rapidly.
Although it doesn’t use fear as a conversion tool, unlike the Church of Ra, its grip on its flock is tight.
The Light’s critics claim that during mass rituals performed in the caves, chemicals are released in the air, making the attendees more susceptible to brainwashing. Others note that a number of
Controllers operate in the ranks of the Light, assisting them in the distortion of reality to their benefit.
When founded, the Divine Light didn’t have a strike force like the
Seed of Ra did, making them an easy target. That changed with their alliance with Balder Syndicate, given that their leader, Nolan Grimm, is deeply religious. He helped them form the
Knights of Ayyadieh order, a strike force, to stand against the Seed.
While the Church of Ra is seeking to extend its influence to the lower Castes, the Divine Light strives to connect with the
Collars and even the
Luminaries. During the last years, it has benefited from the rivalry of the Families in pushing their agenda to the upper Castes.
