Brenna
If you want to get rich quick, and lose your money even quicker, come to Brenna.
-Bikol Nevan, tavern-dweller.
Demographics
mostly Shirandir, but like everywhere in Hayrin the city is quite diverse. Brenna is also home to the largest population of non-humans in Hayrin, most notably elves. The elves are primarily employed by the College of Magic, so they are solidly middle-class. The most lavish houses in Hayrin are in Brenna, although they are relatively small in comparison to the fortress homes of the great lords on the rest of the island. They make up what they lack in size, by being elaborate.
Government
The City Council manages the day-to-day affairs, under the watchful eye of the Brentish Lords in Seaguard. The navy has an outsized influence here, and in practice most of the councilors are the navy's men. Of course the navy also employs half the city.
Industry & Trade
Brenna is the center of all trade in Hayrin, and the site of the only indoor market. It is open from dawn til dusk, rain or shine: and almost always crammed full.
Infrastructure
Most notably, shipyards. big huge docks that extend off the eastern coast of the peninsula, where ships are built around the clock. Furnaces also run night and day, to supply the yard with nails. Brenna is the only place in Hayrin where businesses stay open around the clock as well: mainly to serve the sailors who are subject to the whim of the tides. These do tend to be the seedier establishments. the city is watered from aqueducts which bring in water from miles away. These impressive feats of collective engineering dominate the city's landscape: such that it is sometimes called the City of a Hundred Bridges. There aren't a hundred aqueducts of course, but there are a lot.
Guilds and Factions
Brenna is where most guilds in Hayrin are headquartered. The two largest guilds are those of the Lumberjacks, and the Seamstresses. These have an influence of course on city politics, with multiple seats on the city council and deep pockets. Every craft however has it's own guild: blacksmiths, coopers, ferriers, basket-makers, etc.
History
This was the first place where humans landed when they initially came to Hayrin. It is thus the oldest of Hayrin's settlements. In the middle stands a huge monument comemorating Balor's landing and the founding of the Kingdom of Hayrin by his brother Ollin.
Architecture
Brenna is an exuberant jumble. The original settlement built by Balor and Ollin is long gone: but grand stone buildings have been built in their place. These buildings now serve as the City Hall, the indoor market, and the Court. They cluster around the monument. The rest of the city was built in a haphazard fashion, as new people landed in search of opportunity.
Geography
located on a peninsula, and sprawling over most of it, Brenna is also covered in an almost perpetual fog. This makes for an interesting atmosphere.
Natural Resources
none to speak of.
