Karakgo'ro

Heralds of the Storm

"The winds became violent, almost blowing us over... we heard the growl of thunder and saw the sudden storm above.. Then came the roar, like a deep tempest.. this was the storm of a great beast."
— Biyrbru hunter
Karakgo'ro are large, bird-like creatures that originated from Biyrbrutom. They often feature in Biyrbru myths and legends due to their intimidating appearance and powerful abilities.

Basic Information

Anatomy

Karakgo'ro have 2 pairs of wings, a bigger one in front and smaller pair behind. They are quadrupeds, and have taloned feet with 2 toes. Karakgo'ro have hard crests on the top of their heads that have the same texture as their long, sharp beaks.

Ecology and Habitats

Karakgo'ro tend to live in more mountainous regions, such as the highlands of Biyrbrutom, the north-west mountains of Celtouma, and the glacial mountains of Virr'akor. Most Karakgo'ro prefer to be in the rain rather than snow, and so often migrate to Biyrbrutom during the colder months. However, this often causes more battles for territory between them due to the increased number.

Dietary Needs and Habits

Karakgo'ro are carnivores, and hunt bigger prey such as Haomu or Murrbüop. They often fly down to the valleys where these animals reside to hunt them.

Behaviour

Karakgo'ro are known to be stoic but highly territorial. A karakgo'ro flying overhead is usually docile towards those it doesn't consider prey, but will become extremely hostile if you enter it's territory, especially if it has young.

Unique Abilities

Karakgo'ro have the ability to create or grow existing thunderstorms. They have "storm feathers" nestled in their chest feathers, which harness water vapor in the air, concentrating it into new clouds. These feathers can also conduct electricity, allowing them the deadly ability to summon lighting. Karakgoro can also create intense gales using their powerful lungs and wings.

Additional Information

Social Structure

Karakgoro tend to be solitary creatures, but in some cases, can be found in groups of up to 5. These groups have no clear hierachy, and act more as a mutual friendship or allyship. This gives them an advantage in defense and during hunts, as a bigger storm can be conjured.

Uses, Products & Exploitation

The "storm feathers" on the chest of a karakgoro are sometimes made into staffs for storm mages, as they conduct weather energy and can be used to create more focused storms or winds. The normal feathers of Karakgoro are also sometimes sewn into clothing as decoration. However, most avoid usuing these materials, as harvesting them is extremely dangerous.
